ABOUT THE OLD POST
OFFICE
Next to the Arch and our sports stadiums, the
Old Post Office is perhaps the best known and most memorable
buildings in downtown St. Louis. Constructed just after the Civil
War to house all federal offices in St. Louis, the Old Post
office was one of the most structurally
advanced buildings of its time. However, St. Louis quickly outgrew
the building, reserving it for its postal services. The Old Post
Office is truly a piece of American
history and is registered on the
National Historic Register.
Over a hundred years old, the entire structure is due
for renovation. With
BSI Constructors Inc.,
James G. Staat Tuckpointing and Waterproofing Inc. has secured a
contract for masonry preservation work
including restoration cleaning, tuckpointing, and an impressive
amount of joint sealant renewal on the Old Post Office and
Customhouse. With the restoration
cleaning already in progress, we look
forward to a quick and successful
operation at the Old Post Office.
