ABOUT WHITE HOUSE
RETREAT
Since 1922, people of faith from around the Midwest have
coming to the White House Retreat to explore and deepen their spirituality.
Situated on the high bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River about twenty
miles south of downtown St. Louis, the White House Retreat receives nearly
5,000 men and women each year. Offering 3 day planned retreats
designed to strengthen spirituality, the White House Retreat is a place of
pure beauty and tranquility. Surrounded by immaculately groomed
botanical life, pristine praying centers, and constructed from exquisite
Indiana limestone, the Retreat is an experience all of its own.
WORK PERFORMED BY
STAAT TUCKPOINTING
When the Retreat needed to be
restored, they turned to James G. Staat Tuckpointing Inc. to do the work.
There were a number of things which set the White House Retreat apart from
other jobs. Because of the delicate nature of the prayer stations and
the sensitive botanical life surrounding them, we had to take great care not
to damage them. This meant insuring that none of the products we used
would damage the plants.
Equally trying was the unusual work
schedule for our time the retreat. Due to the rigorous praying
schedule, mandatory quiet time, and numerous events at the grounds, the work
at the Retreat had to be highly coordinated so as not to disturb them.
During our time at the Retreat, we
provided restoration cleaning, a full building tuckpoint, limestone
replacement, and full building water-repellants. Every piece of the
limestone that was replaced had to carefully removed so as not to disturb
the surrounding masonry and its replacement had to be hand cut to fit
perfectly. Also, we were able to provide the Retreat with a 5 year
warranty their water-repellants. But the greatest part was that we
were actually able to complete the job nearly 31% under-budget. Since
then, The White House Retreat has counted on Staat Tuckpointing whenever
further repairs have been necessary.
TESTIMONIAL FOR
MASONRY RESTORATION AT WHITE HOUSE RETREAT
"Jim Staat has a fine company. I
can call him about anything. I had them out here for almost eighteen
months. They were easy to work with; they had great pricing and great
workmanship. And they could work with me...I'm very demanding."
